Court Custody (Title IV-E)
The Holmes County Juvenile Court may take custody of a youth in delinquent and unruly cases for out of home placement for children in need of residential treatment, foster care or group home placements due to the inability of parents to effectively parent a child or ongoing behavioral and/or mental health problems of the child. The Court often takes into consideration not only court employees recommendations for a child but also the recommendations of psychologists, counselors, schools, the local service funding committee, Children Services, and families when placing a child.
When a child is placed into the custody of the court, a case manager is assigned either from the Court or the Department of Job and Family Services to monitor the case.
The Holmes County Juvenile Court is a Title IV-E court allowing the court to receive federal funding to assist with the placement of youth for those families income eligible. The Court also receives assistance for payment of placements through the Department of Job and Family Services, child support, Wayne and Holmes County Board of Mental Health & Recovery, and the Holmes County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Children are placed into licensed foster homes, residential treatment centers, and group homes.
